Prof. Shrikhande is a Professor & Head of the Division of Cancer Surgery, Chief of GI and HPB Surgical Service at the Tata Memorial Center, Mumbai.

International clinical training of Prof. Shrikhande includes – Internship training in Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgery at the Mayo Clinic, USA (1993); Post-Doctoral Fellow In the Department of Visceral and Transplantation Surgery, the University of Bern, Inselspital, Bern, Switzerland (1998-2000); Kenneth Warren Fellow of IHPBA, In the European Pancreas Center and the Department of Surgery of the University of Heidelberg, Germany (2005-06).

 

Honors of Prof. Shailesh Shrikhande:

  • Honorary Fellowship of the American Surgical Association (ASA) in 2020. The 1st Indian cancer specialist and the 2nd Indian ever to receive this highest American honor.
  • Project Leader of the new TMC hospital building project, a state-of-the-art 550-bed futuristic cancer center in service of the nation. 
  • Completed healthcare administration at Harvard University 2020-22. Awarded a full scholarship by Tata Trusts.
  • Chairman, Scientific Committee, International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA) 2018 – 2020 (First and only Indian to date).
  • Only Indian on the Steering and Program Committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2018 – 2020.
  • Youngest President, Indian Chapter of IHPBA 2019 – 2021.
  • President-Elect, Asia Pacific Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (APHPBA) 2021-23.
  • Best Doctor Award 2015 & 2021 by the Governor of Maharashtra.
  • Honorary Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS), 2014, in recognition of developing world-class digestive cancer surgery in India.
  • Chairman of “Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) Task Force for developing Guidelines for Management of Gastric Cancer, Neuroendocrine tumors and Pancreatic Cancer in India”, 2012-2018.
  • Kenneth Warren Fellowship for research on pancreatic cancer by the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA). Only Indian till date to be awarded this prestigious fellowship in the last 19 years.

Prof. Shailesh Shrikhande has conducted 58 Live operative teaching demonstrations across India. 28 Orations & Key Note Lectures. Has been invited to deliver 589 lectures worldwide.

He has contributed to 77 Invited Book Chapters and made 303 Scientific Publications.
